For my third collaboration I’m to work with an outside body. I have decided to host a fabric dying workshop that will have a link to my practice which is the constant exploration of my natural environment and surroundings. I have chosen the natural environment as this is something that we are in on a near daily basis and we often don’t pay much attention to it.

The creation of these artworks will enable the participants to create an abstract interpretation of their chosen environment using natural dying methods which have been around for century’s taking a contemporary twist using stich and line work which will enhance and embellish the resolved artwork.

My initial idea is to have the participants choose colours that link to them in a personal way but after some research and looking at the length of time I have for this project I had to slightly adapt my initial idea.

Each participant will be given a piece of white lining fabric. each participant will be told to bring in some natural objects from their chosen natural environment. The object must be natural so the lining fabric can absorb the objects natural colour. Participants can bring in materials from their chosen environment such as carrot, red cabbage, acorns etc. If you don’t have any materials some will be provided during the workshop.

After the participants have selected the materials and prepared the fabric for the dying process they will be asked to write how they feel etc linking in with the connections to our natural environments.
