I’ve been looking into Robert Therrien’s work but in particular his exhibition at the TATE titled ‘objects and stories’ where he has experimented with materials, scale and has used a large selection of techniques to produce these works. Therrien shows everyday objects from a new angle focusing on the emotional connection we have with the things that are in our lives. Therrien uses these everyday objects to trigger and evoke memories and a nostalgic feeling for viewers also creating a sense of mystery.

The exhibition took place in a small cupboard where the artist displayed eight hundred and eighty-eight red objects. The artist started collecting these red objects when he sent for plastic samples, these were red plastic samples and ever since then he has collected anything red kitchen utensils to red car equipment. The artist has even went to lengths of buying and painting objects red to fit into the space and installation. Objects that are contained within the space have a link to either the artist, his family or his friends, the connections with the objects and the things we associate with them are extremely important to Therrien.
