Hepworth’s use of shape and line Is why I am so attracted and drawn to her work. The simplistic way in which the shape is formed and how it is is pleasing to the eye is just so magical to me. Also the way In which she removes shapes and creates holes within the objects/ sculptures.
Hepworth used a technique called direct carving – this means the marks she implemented in the early stages were present when the sculpture was completed instead of making practice moulds etc.
When producing work Hepworth used a large variety of materials and methods throughout her time as an artist. She was known very well for just craving straight onto the surface as this gave her great satisfaction and if i’m honest the thought of it puts a smile on my face. Hepworth is most known for her large scale bronze sculptures as the were/ are equipped for all elements and spaces.
