I was in the garden sitting having a coffee minding my own business when I started paying attention to all of the natural material that lay beneath the surface of the trees and bushes. I’ve never really payed attention to this before as I have always just removed any unwanted debris.
I’m paying particular attention to the debris that goes unnoticed and unloved. The natural plant materials that have died and are rotting in the shadow’s paying close attention to them. I spent a good while conducting observational sketches of them trying to capture them using pencil, marker men and charcoal. I have only used dark shades as to focus on the neglect that these unwanted objects face as they lay beneath the bushes and trees staying forever lifeless.
I must admit I am most happy with the charcoal sketches as I feel I have been able to get the most freedom on the page where as I found the marker one to be quite constricting when drawing. This could have been down to the size of the nib on the pen but I feel as though I wasn’t able to get the fluid and gnarled nature of the beaches when using the marker pen.
