After revisiting the Fabric patchwork, I created earlier in the year I wanted to better my skills and knowledge when it came to fabric dying using natural materials taken from my garden and location to create an organic tapestry that represents my surroundings. I achieved this through trial and error and the use of Turmeric, Red Cabbage, Spinach, Paprika and Indigo etc which has enabled me to achieve such wonderful colours like these. Textile artist Kiva Motnyk and Natalie Stork have been an asset and great source of knowledge and inspiration for these artworks. Especially to Motnyk’swork ethic of being 100% organic and only using natural materials. This artwork had to be the most enjoyable so far this year as I have experimented with so many dying techniques such as steam dying which was an odd experience but a notable one I recommend trying.
This is the underside of the fabric which still has all of the exposed fabric edges and threads something I will admit to linking as it shows that it is an artwork in the making a piece that is polished but at the same time it exposes its inner-workings. This is something some artworks lack.
