As a multimedia artist working in both 2D and 3D my workspace/ studio space can vary quite a lot. I can sometimes be in the dining room, or the lounge, or the study or my garden. My working style and pattern aren’t like most I know I am rather fluid but also ridged when it comes to making art.
Once I get started and my thoughts travel onto the page my workspace goes from immaculate to rather messy so much so I would rather leave it than tidy it up. Although when I go to make work in the garden, I am the complete opposite. I take a gentle and caring hand to the pants as I decide their spot in the border. I think the reason for me being so decisive and tidy is because I am handling a living thing. An object which will hopefully live forever but if I do something wrong, for example plant it too deep or in the wrong conditions its life could instantly be shortened.
My storage for my art supplies is extremely organised and clearly labelled as to create ease when locating supplies. I often hate working in a sketchbook as I would rather work on individual pieces of paper and use sticky notes to add annotations to the artworks.
On my desk I have the academic years’ timetable as well as a week-to-week planner highlighting deadlines and classes for that week enabling me to stay on track with my learning. I always have a brightly coloured notebook. This year I am starting off with a florescent yellow one. The reason for always having one with a bright eye-catching cover is for times when my desk/ workstation becomes overrun with work and mess, making it easy to locate.
